Brazilian firms Braskem and Acinplas have signed a partnership for supplying green polyethylene from a 100% renewable source. The resin will be used to manufacture plastic films that will be transformed into a licensed product called Sistema Unisold®, used by companies run by Acinplas-Suzuki, Koba, Plasa, Voti and Tashiro & Takata. The films are used for perforated bags for food sold in supermarkets in Brazil and Europe.
The deal includes construction of a plant in Rio Grande do Sul that will produce 200,000 tons of ethylene a year that will be transformed into an equivalent volume of polyethylene. The new plant is scheduled to begin operations in early 2011.
